Form/Report Controls Ribbon

This is going to be a cross between "I want his to be more like Visual
Studio" and "I liked the old way better" post, but this is mainly where I am
at.

The controls toolbar in previous versions of Access was a direct parallel
(very similar) to its sibling in Visual Studio. Less controls made it easy to
dock on the left and have access to everything. Now, it's essentially been
condensed to a random order (with some purpose) of icons on the top of the
screen with no apparent ability to change the order, add labels, or give
prominence to what each individual uses most. (text box, label, and button
being the common ones - but can't you give the user an option to at least
change this around?)

I was hoping that this revision would keep this dockable and movable like
previous access, but give us more robust features more easily accessible like
rearranging ordering, naming, adding custom controls for easy reference, etc.
If you need to keep this up at the ribbon, fine, but then either a) give us
the ability to fully customize the arrangement on the controls ribbon or b)
give us some sort of toolbar window that we can dock on the left/right/bottom
of the screen that power users and professionals can customize to meet their
needs.

Alex,

Remember too that you can add any of the controls on the Controls chunk to your Quick Access
Toolbar. Right click on any of them and select "Add to Quick Access Toolbar." You can then customize
the order you want as well. Finally, you can move the QAT below the Ribbon to be much closer to your
Design and Layout grids. This may not meet all of your goals, but it should be more to your liking I
think.

I will probably do this myself when I get heavily into designing forms and reports.

Jeff,

I know I can do that, but what you're suggesting is more of a faulty,
ineffective, workaround to me. In older versions of Office I could create
custom toolbars (emphasis on the plural) if I actually had extreme
customization needs, or modify existing toolbars ones.

Here, I'm stuck with the quick toolbar (which I can have at a choice of a
whole two positions on the screen (sarcasm)), and lose control over the
ribbon, and the things that I'm used to being able to do (undock things, move
them around, redock them where I like them. hide them, etc.) aren't there. If
I used to be able to pull something up (the controls toolbar), have it float,
dock it, undock it, etc. why did that now become a fixed item that I can't do
anything with?
