Form Result Email needs to be sent to Another Server

George VH

Hi

I am responsible for creating and maintaining an agency intranet website and
I have created a form using Front Page that emails the result to the office
email. This has been working for over a year: Now my problem:

The agency is now changing things and everything that is coming from the web
has to be directed to a specific server that will then relay the email to the
office mailbox. This means changing Front Page code to point to this other
server instead of server the website resides on.

They are telling me that since this form was created using the built-in code
in FrontPage, which provides things to make things easy, called a Web-bot, it
(FrontPage) keeps things simple by hiding a lot of stuff from the user. It
(FrontPage) automatically points to the mail service on the server it is
running on. They are not aware of a way of changing the code so that it
points to this other server.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how or what changes I can make so
that the form result are routed to this relay server first and then the relay
server will forward it to the office email inbox.

I really appreciate any assistance you may be able to provide to correct my
problem.

If possible, I would appreciate any replies be forwarded to my email
addresses of:

(e-mail address removed) or (e-mail address removed)

Thanks again!!
George

It must use the mail server and email address within the domain of the web
site.

It won't allow relaying, especially if authentication is required on the
mail server.

Tom, we keep saying this, but yet I've been on two different linux servers
that allowed (one still does) me to form email to a different domain...so is
there a CPanel setting to allow this or what?

It depends on whether the SMTP server is set up to allow relaying or
not, many hosts do not allow this anymore in order to combat spam -
some hosts do allow relaying, but the numbers that do appear to be
falling.

The server to be used is set up in the FrontPage extensions
configuration, and must be changed by the host if they are willing.
The server must NOT require authorisation

so it's how the host mail server is setup..not something the webster can do.
Relayings as in using my email setup to send out spam? Is there a way to
check if this has/is being done? Sorry for going ot on this, but I've never
really understood this.

thanks,

If you can use a FrontPage form to send email out of your domain, then
relaying has been allowed for your domain, and/or every domain with
sites on your server.
However, that does not mean that the server is an open relay (one that
will provide relaying for everyone and his dog), or that other
security measures have not been set to prevent spamming. I am not an
expert here - the best way to find out how secure your SMTP server is
is to question the host.
