Form results email address not hyperlinked?

Steve

Hi,

I have a very simple contact form created in FP 2002 - with a field to enter
an email address.

The form results are set to send as Formatted Text with HTML.

However, the recipient says when he receives the form results the email
address is not in blue or hyperlinked. Eg he cannot click on it and
automatically bring up his email program to reply.

I thought it was the settings on his computer because I sent the same form
results to three other people as a test and all [as well as myself] received
the email address in blue and clickable.

However, I just sent the results to the clients tech's computer and he also
says it arrives as just plain text.

Does anyone have an idea why this is happening and if so what I can do about
it?

I have tried changing the form results setting to just HTML etc but no change.

What is it that is allowing some to receive the email address OK and others
not?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Sounds like his email client is not set to accept html email...this is a
common problem with html emailings.

In addition to Rob's comment, recognising a link (email or otherwise) is
a function of the email client - Outlook and Outlook Express will
convert an email address into a clickable link even in a plain text
email. For your client's email client you may have to prefix the email
address with a mailto: - example:

mailto:[email protected]

FYI - if the form contains any text areas or a large number of fields
then some data may be lost when sending HTML email through the FrontPage
extensions. There is a limit to the amount of data the extensions will
process in HTML format, but no limit (that I have found or heard of) in
plain text formats.

Thanks Rob & Ron,

I have considered both your comments and checked everything including
contacting the clients host to query the handling of their mail server.

However nothing makes sense at the moment - eg:

1/ Most people I have sent the form results to receive the results OK with
the blue clickable email link working. All with Outlook some on XP and some
on Vista.
2/ The client collecting with Outlook sees it as plain text only.
3/ Two other people I sent the results to today also see it as plain text?
That would seem to indicate it is not the clients mail server.
4/ Yes the form is big with 22 fields - but then some receive the results -
blue email link OK and some plain text. So that seems to indicate the form is
not too big.
5/ I don't use Outlook so I can't check to see it it has some settings which
need to be switched on. But my client says he can't see any.
6/ Yes I understand the mailto: addition you spoke of - but not sure exactly
where to insert that in the html? The email address is just entered inti a
field on the form?

I'm still scratching my head. But thank you both for your help.

Regards,
Steve

The only place I can see in Outlook where links do not work is the Junk
mail folder - is the form data being delivered as SPAM or Phishing mail?

bottom bottom line is html email is unpredictable and it will get worse as
more people switch to Outlook 2007 which uses WORD as html rendering engine
which does not support;
bg images
FORMS
floats
css positioning
and more or should I say; less:
