Form Submission Failure

P

Paul

Hello

In a previous post I was told how to add the e-mail to the form properties.
So I did that, I loaded it to my website hit the page, put some info in the
fields and hit submit and I get a HTTP 404 Page Not Found display, the web
address is www.blahblah.com/_derived/norbots.htm, is there a page I should
be adding to support this or is there something I am missing in the form
properties?

TIA

Cheers

Are you uploading to server that has the FP extensions via FP's http mode? If yes, then your host
has not enable the extensions to process email.

Your host does not have FP server extensions installed, according to all my
tests. Thus, FP forms will not work.

See for yourself:
How to check and see if FP Server Extensions are installed on the host
server:
http://www.dnswiz.com/fptype.htm

or, type in your website root URL with /_vti_inf.html ex:
http://www.mysitename.com/_vti_inf.html and you will see whether your site
has them installed and enabled.

Hi Tom

DNS WIZ did come back with FP extensions as an affirmative

WWW Site: www.athenausa.com
Port: 80
Server Software: Apache/1.3.27 (Unix) PHP/4.3.0 FrontPage/5.0.2.2510
FrontPage Extensions: YES
Version: 5.0.2.2623

Is there something i should ask my hosting company so the forms work?

FrontPageForms

Paul,

Although the extensions are available, they could have
become corrupt. Honestly, most of the form problems I
encounter are because of FTP or form properties settings.

If you are having trouble with a particular page, please
include the URL of the problem page so someone can take a
look at it. I went to your site, but didn't see any form.

FrontPageForms

Paul,

This is kind of strange. I get a page cannot be displayed
error. When I look at your source, I see your confirmation
page set as your products.htm page. Whe I copy the form
into FrontPage however, I see the domain name appearing
twice under the confirmation tab, which would definitely
produce a page cannot be found error.

Double check this to make sure it isn't appearing twice in
your properties.

You also have _derived nortbots appearing in your form
code. I still think there may be an extension issue here
as well.

I would recommend starting over with a new page for the
form. Start from scratch, double check the form
properteies and do a Save As to replace the current page.

The File not found error is because the links are all pointing in the wrong place
Current the page http://www.athenausa.com/Contact.htm has
<FORM METHOD="POST" ACTION="../_derived/nortbots.htm" webbot-action="--WEBBOT-SELF--"
onSubmit="location.href='../_derived/nortbots.htm';return false;" webbot-onSubmit>
<!--WEBBOT BOT=SaveResults U-File="../_private/formrslt.txt" S-Format="TEXT/TSV"
B-Label-Fields="TRUE" S-Email-Address="(e-mail address removed)" S-Email-Format="TEXT/PRE" startspan -->

The ../ before each link means up one level from the root web http://www.athenausa.com/ (since Contact.htm is at the root level)
which is not possible
Remove the ../ from all the form / webbot code

Hi Stefan

I tried that and I am still getting failures. I talked to a friend who does
web design and she gets a similar problem too. I tried saving the entry to
the _private file and it does not work. I then tried to do the same thing on
my intranet site and was not able to get any forms to send the information
anywhere, nor get to the right page after submit is pressed.

This is a little weird, not to say frustrating too.

Cheers

Paul

I stil see wrong paths
"../_derived/nortbots.htm"
onSubmit="location.href='../_derived/nortbots.htm'
U-File=".._private/formrslt.txt"

For a root file, all should be
"_derived/nortbots.htm"
onSubmit="location.href='_derived/nortbots.htm'
U-File="_private/formrslt.txt"
