I have some issues with an Excel file that I will try to explain.
The file contains worksheets; 12 monthly progress reports, 1 data sheet, 1
information sheet, 12 comment sheets (to show progress against objectives set
in the report). It is stored in the 2003 format.
The reports have some text that is linked to the information sheet and the
comment sheets and charts that update from the data sheet. Each report
typically has 6 charts with the relevant comments. The information sheet is
just to give the header information as the need for new files is reached and
this information is common within the header.
When the file was initially created all was functioning correctly, comments
were correct and charts were updating correctly.
Issue #1
The file was copied for a new requirement and when this new file was opened
it was found that the position of most charts had changed. They were stacked
on top of each other in many cases or off the to the side of the page and
some were even on the wrong worksheet. If they were repositioned when the
file was copied again the same condition was seen. It has also been seen that
if the file is sent via email to a different computer when it is opened the
charts have moved out of position.
Issue #2
Against each chart there is a cell that links to the comment sheet to input
text. Initially this was functioning correctly and as the comment sheets were
updated the text in this cell also showed the change.
After the file was copied the cell on the report sheet only showed the
target on the comment sheet and not the contents of the cell in the comment
sheets. For example if I have a “report†worksheet and a “Comment Sheetâ€
worksheet, the link used was in the form “='Comment Sheet'!C1†and the text
in that location was shown. After the file was copied the cell on the report
would show ='Comment Sheet'!C1 and not the text in the target cell.
Deleting the information in the report cell and reentering makes no
difference, I can perform the same function at a different location and it
works correctly however there is no difference that I can see in the
formatting of the cells. If I move the contents of a cell that is working
correctly to the location I want, then the link start to work correctly.
Thanks for any help
