Format Gantt bars to break for overnight nonworking time

Luch

I have a Project 2000 schedule in which the main shift is 6AM to 6PM.
I have the major timescale set to Days, and the minor timescale set to
Hours, interval of 4 (so it shows 12, 6, 12, 6 on the minor timescale
line.) 6 PM of one day to 6 AM of the next is grayed as Nonworking on
the Gantt chart.

I have some tasks that begin on one day, stop at quitting time, and
resume the next. However, the task bars run through the night, giving
the impression that work is going on through the night. This is
especially a problem because there are some workers on the night
shift, and it's not clear from viewing the Gantt chart, onscreen or in
print, if that work is intended to go over night. Isn't there a way
to stop the task bar at the end of nonworking time for a given
resource, and pick it up again as soon as that resource's working time
starts again, besides manually splitting tasks?

An email response or copy would be appreciated; if so, please use
(e-mail address removed).

Thanks for any help.

Luch,

You can format the non-working time (grey bars) for the
Gantt chart to draw in front of the task bars.

Click your secondary mouse button in the Gantt chart and
from the shortcut menu choose Non-working time...
Under Formatting Options on the Non-working time tab,
click in the option button to draw "In front of task
bars".
The task bars will appear to stop at the end of the shift
and resume the next day.
Hope this helps.

Only problem is, if work really IS supposed to go on overnight the bars
will still be interupted unless you also change the calendar that
controls display of the timescale's non-working time. Not a major issue
unless you're not aware of it.
