format lost on merge from access database

Mike Eurice

I am trying to use information from my access database in
a Microsoft Word 2K mail merge. My problem is that the
zip code formatting in access seems to be lost in the
transfer. The format used is 00000\-9999;0;_ which gives
me a zip code like 14604-2070, but when I merge the table
information into a word document, the zip code appears as
such: 146042070. How can I preserve the formatting on
transfer? Zip codes that I entered before I set the table
format come through OK (in other words, I typed 14604-
2070directly into the table; it only seems to affect data
entered after I set the format(I typed 146042070 into the
table and access automatically formatted it to look like
14604-2070)

Hi Mike,

Add the following numeric picture switch to the mergefield in the mail merge
main document

{ MergeField [zipcodefieldname] \# "00000'-'0000" }

Please post any further questions or followup to the newsgroups for the
benefit of others who may be interested. Unsolicited questions forwarded
directly to me will only be answered on a paid consulting basis.

Hope this helps
