Format Painter Anyone?

Hello,
I have Word 2002. I remember using something called
a "format painter" or something similar in an earlier
version of Word. With this tool you can copy a format of
a selected set of characters and paste this format onto
another set of selected characters. Does this sound
familar to anyone? Does Word 2002 have this feature?

Ellen,

Yes Format Painter is available. Unfortunately I have modified my standard
toolbars to the point I can't tell you where it should be, but you might
find it on the formatting tool bar. If you don't see it on any of your
toolbars, you can add the command byt View>Toolbars>Customize>Commands.
Select Format in categories menu and in the command window scroll and find
Format Painter. Drag and drop it on the toolbar or menu of your choice.

The Format Painter is still available in Word 2002, to the right of the
Paste button on the Standard toolbar. Note, however, that the CopyFormat
(Ctrl+Shift+C) and PasteFormat (Ctrl+Shift+V) may also be used. CopyFormat
is the equivalent of double-clicking the Format Painter button, since the
format remains available for repasting until supplanted by a different
format.

to modify a document by making sure the "small caps"
option is off and by changing the case from "upper case"
to "title case". So I'm doing one or two things to
selected text. Can the format painter do that for me?
The key strokes you gave me don't seem to work.

just a side note: the three answers to most all of your woes is styles,
stlyes, and styles.

If you want to have a consistent layout, define styles to your liking
and apply these where appropriate. Make your own toolbar where you place
the styles you're using most (or use self-made keyboard shortcuts for
them), and you'll be a lot quicker than with that not-so-intuitive
format painter.

Bob is right, of course. To use the keystrokes I supplied for font
properties, you must have text selected. You can copy/paste paragraph
formatting by just clicking in a paragraph.
