Format painter - keeps unselecting

I've tried the format painter since our company updated to MS Word 2007.
Double-clicking no longer works. Additionally, when I select it, if I scroll
using the scroll bar or [PAGE DOWN], the button also unselects itself.
Has anyone else seen these bugs?

Instead of using the Format Painter button, select the text whose formatting
you want to copy, and press Ctrl+Shift+C. You can then paste the formatting
repeatedly using Ctrl+Shift+V.

This can be caused - most likely is caused - by an AddIn (trapping the
Selection_Change event). Does it still happen if you start Word in safe mode
(press and hold Ctrl while you start Word)?

No, it's still broken (when I start in safe mode).

The behavoir is a LITTLE different thoug:
The button will stay selected after a double click on the format painter
when I drag over text to be formatted, but it unselects when I try to double
click to format an entire paragraph (double-clicking to the left of the
para.), scroll down to select other text, and double click on a word to just
select a word.

So, the long and short is that the format painter just doesn't work like it
used to. It used to be a pleasure to use, now it's a hassle.

Sorry - I haven't seen this behaviour and don't know what may cause it - in
safe mode there should be nothing interfering (unless your document, or its
template, have any code). The format painter works the same for me in 2007
as it did in 2003 - including staying selected when I double click to the
left of a paragraph.
