Format Painter problem

I can use Format Painter to apply all of my styles except for the Bullet
Style. If I use it on my bullet style the style changes. It would be nice
to be able to apply the bullet style to my text without it changing on me.
Hopefully someone will have a solution.

I have always mistrusted Format Painter, because it has a criminal past as
far as applying styles is concerned.

Since you have not said what version of Word you are using, I can't add
anything helpful. Most questions simply can't be answered until you say
which version of Word you are using.

Hi Judy -

Nobody can do much to help you if you don't specify what version of Word &
OS X you're using as well as a more detailed description of the problem.

In this case, though, I don't understand why your messing with the Format
Painter to begin with - If you're actually doing your formatting by using
Styles, why not just apply the Style? At best the Format Painter makes for
*more* - and needless - work to get your formatting done. If Styles are
being used properly there's absolutely no reason to use the FP because the
formatting doesn't have to be *copied* from another location - that's part
of the rationale for using Styles in the first place.

There hasn't been a *Named* format Painter in word except in 2008.

There may have been a Format painter like device in 2004, 2001 But if
there ever was I never could find it.

Wow Office 95 (4.2) Word6 had had format painter that worked Great but
in order to use it you had to turn on the show formatting codes and
double click on the little black box in front of the paragraph you want
to copy the formatting.

The Format Painter is a paint brush icon that appears in the standard
toolbar in both Word and Excel 2004.

No. The Format Painter's been in Word since at least Word 98, and IIRC,
it was introduced in Word 6.

There hasn't been a *Named* format Painter in word except in 2008.

Of course there has. Place the cursor over the paintbrush icon - the
Tooltip says "Format Painter".

If you use Tools->Customize Toolbars/Menus->Commands, in the Format
category, the commands listbox lists "Format Painter" as a command.

There may have been a Format painter like device in 2004, 2001 But if
there ever was I never could find it.

It's on the default Standard toolbar.
