With the format painter, can one paste the result in several cells at once, even if they're not contiguous? If so, does anyone know how?
Thanks

No you can not do that as the format is pasted when you release the mouse.
You can paste to contiguous cels, but not non-contiguous ones.

To invoke the format painter for non contiguous cells double click on the
format painter tool and then you can multi select cells that you need to
paste the formatting.

Sam_Ward -

Select the cell with the format of interest.

Double-click the format painter icon to make it "sticky."

Click the various non-contiguous cells that you want to have the format.

When finished, click the format painter icon once to "unstick" it.

OOPS, my bad. That works fine. (Double click works with most tools to keep
them persistent.)

Yes, that is correct! With the format painter you select the cell containing
the desired format, the one you want to "paint" on the other cell. Then you
click on the cell (or drag through a range) when you release the mouse, the
format is painted. To do this to discontiguous cells, select the cell with
the desired format, and then double click the format paint tool. THEN you
can command click on the destination cells.

THEN you
can command click on the destination cells.

If you dbl-clk the FP you don't have to Cmd-clk - just click any individual
cells, drag to format contiguous ranges, then click the FP to turn it off
when you're done (or press esc or execute another command):)
