Format Plot Area default -- how to set?

Even after my upgrade to Office2K, the XL still appears to be missing
something. That default grey background MS uses for charts drives me
crazy - simply not useable. So, every graph I make, I have to hilite
the graph boundary, R click/FORMAT PLOT AREA and click the white box to
get a normal looking graph. Many times I've tried to "save default
chart" and it saves the defaults for chart type but not the plot area
selection. I've found nowhere in any settings to change it.

Can someone enlighten me on how to set the proper default or assure me
there's just no way to simplify my life.

Rob -

You have to save the chart as a user defined chart type. I describe the
