Format Question: want veritical letters that "read" downward

Hi:

I want to format a cell so that the letters up "normal" but are stacked
vertically.

Thus:

H
e
l
l
o

I can get format to rotate the word 90 degrees but that's not quite what I
want.

(I did this in 123, want to do it in Excel.)

Thanks

Check Format/Cells/Alignment and click on the vertical text button
in the Orientation section.

Oh!

That's what that's for!

Since I have your attention, is there a way of keeping the font and the
characterists but decreasing the vertical spacing between letters.

Thanks,

Not that I know of...

Selecting the Shrink to fit checkbox gives you a (very) little
wiggle room - it seems to me that it reduces space before reducing
text size.

i am using Office XP and at the left side of the rotation settings i see
what you want.
There are two types of selection, one is which you can adjust the degree and
the other is which you can select vertical standing.

Yeah.

I tried checking the "shrink to fit" box. It didn't seem to have any
effect that "center vertical" didn't.

thanks.
