Formattiing and spell check

I have recently updated from Office 2000 to Office 2003. In Word 2003 how
can I stop all the automatic formatting. The program keeps changing the tab
set and the margins when I try to set up my own format....it seems to have a
mind of its own. I often make lists using 1,2,3.. or a, b, c... but the
program changes what I type and then changes the margins, etc.

Also in Word 2000 I could keep "undoing" to restore the document to an
earlier saved version and now I seem to only be able to undo the last change.
Is there a way to reset "undo"?

Also, I hit the "ignore" option in the spell check by mistake and now the
spell check keeps saying spell check complete - is there a way to reset it
so it will check spelling in my document?

For the first problem, go to Tools | AutoCorrect Options | AutoFormat As You
Type and clear the check boxes for automatic numbered lists, "Define styles
based on your formatting," "Format list item like the beginning of the one
before it," and any other items that look as if they might cause you grief
(see http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/TameAutoFormat.htm).

For the second problem, go to Tools | Options | Spelling & Grammar and click
Recheck Document.
