Formatting a CD-RW

Situation: a formatted CD with 3 files [with only 100 Kb] that had been added
to "disappeared" when we tried to copy a 4th file from Word [saved in My
Documents] to the same CD.
Screen message "Cannot copy file as disk is full or corrupted..insert a new
CD"
In checking 'properties' on the CD, the readout was "0 bytes free - o bytes
total size".
When a search for the missing files was conducted, the only thing found
saved was not the 3 files but the shortcuts of 1Kb each on C drive! How this
happened is beyond our minimal expertise.
How do we format a CD-RW so that:
1] we can write directly on the CD, save same, and add text later to
these files
and
-- 2] we can transfer a file from My Docs to the CD so that we can avoid a
blocked file?

Does the Windows XP with Sonic DLA or Record Now accomplish this? and
steps to do so? Thanks.

there is a setting for the cd
properties regarding "burning"
when the eject button is pressed.

if the cd was ejected / burned
before the files were written
to it, then the cd-r disk is blank
and no longer writable. however
they do make nice christmas tree
ornaments or car rear view mirror
prisms.

incidently, windows puts all files
that are desired to be written
to the cd in a stanging area.

that way it can write the cd
"once" via a batch write
of files, from the staging
area to cd-r type disks.

for the older cd-r's the staging
area is where you can modify
your selection before the
final burn.

with the new cd-rw's the staging
area is still there, but you can
modify the selection of files on
the re-writable cd's as well.

cd-rw can be burned permanently
to become regular cd's of data
or music and readiable
by cd devices.

or they can stay in a writable state
that can only be used by cd-rw devices.

Not with the native XP CD Burning software - you will need something like
Nero or Roxio to do this.
