Formatting as Currency

I am creating org charts using the wizard in visio 2003. I am trying to
include salary/rate pay in block 5 on the org chart. The information is
formatted as currency in my excel spreadsheet but when I load the data into
visio it loses its formatting. I tried creating a custom property in each of
the shapes using the document stencil, but the information still will not
format as currency.

Does anyone know how I can do this? I would like to see it with a dollar
sign and two decimal places (ex. $48,000.00 or $10.55). Also, I would like
for it to be formatted as currency when it loads in or all at once after it
has been loaded into visio via a macro/utility.

Thanks for your help!

For the custom property, open the Define Shape Data Window and change the
Type to Currency.

....then go back to the ShapeSheet and see what kind of formulas have
been altered. As John says, it's easier to start with the UI to define a
field, then see what happens behind-the-scenes in the ShapeSheet.

You'll find something funny in the Format and Value cells of a Shape
Data (Custom Property) row.

In the shapesheet, the row type is changed to 7 and a currency format is
added.

Thanks Chris and John for your help. However, it's still not working.

I have the custom property defined as type =currency and format as U0.00.
Once I load the information in it still does not appear as currency in the
org chart boxes. However, if I open the custom properties I will see the
annual salary formatted as currency as I want it to be. So it appears as
currency in the custom property box but not in the actual position box
itself. I also checked the shapesheet and it looks just as you say--with a 7
and the currency format.

I named the custom property Annual_Salary and I named the column in my excel
spreadsheet (my data file)Annual_Salary as well, hoping they would like up. I
also put this field in the custom properties screen in the org chart wizard.
I also have a template and on the template I've changed the properties of
each position box (manager, executive, position, etc) so that it has the
custom property. I'm not sure what else to do.

Any other thoughts?
