Formatting Axis on a chart

I am trying to change the scale on the X axis of my chart from 1 to 3. When I go to the format axis options, the only options I am given are about tick marks.
I've been to the formatting palette, but there isn't anything on there about axes (unlike what it says on this website about it).
I just want to change a simple thing, but I can't find out how to do it. Does anyone have any suggestions? It's just a simple bar graph with only one set of data.
Thanks

You don't have a scale option in the format axis dialog? What kind of chart
are you trying to format?

No, there isn't any option.

It's just a simple bar graph with 7 bars. That's, it... it's a very basic chart.

OK, so you right click on the X (Value) axis, and choose format Axis. And,
there is no choice for Scale along the top of the dialog? Is the chart or
worksheet protected?

Methinks the OP is a GnuB who doesn't understand that only a
ScatterPlot is actually a scaleable chart.
And no, you can't "scale" any other chart type's x-axis. You have to
edit the formula to change the number of categories to plot.
