Formatting backgrounds with digital pictures

Have files full of digital photos. Is it possible to put
them into a PowerPoint slideshow without going through the
whole process for each picture?: "Insert - New Slide -
Format - Background - Fill - Fill Effects - Select
Picture," etc.
