Formatting Bar Tabs?

Joan NYC

I came across a situation that has absolutely stumped me.

I would like to change the color of a bar tab (to match
font) and can't find any way to do it. I know that the
alternative is to use a table in this situation but I
would like to make sure there is no other way....

Thanks much.

Joan,

Unfortunately I couldn't find a way to set color on a bar
tab (tried Word 2002, but don't recall an option to do
this in Word 2000 or 97, either). However you could try:
1. A table cell/column border, as you mentioned
2. A paragraph border through Format |Borders & Shading
3. A vertical line using the drawing toolbar
4. Setting the entire color of the page through printer
options (depends on the type of printer you have -- if
you want the entire page to print in a single color, font
and all, you may be able to manipulate that through
printer color settings)

Hope this helps,
Kim

Thanks Kim

I know all the workarounds but came across this and was
stumped. Thought I might be missing something.

If a bar tab were a "real" tab, you could select the tab character and
format its color, but since bar tabs don't require tab characters, I think
this is a lost cause.

Thanks Suzanne for confirming this!
