Formatting Cells On Open

Whenever I re-open an excel spreadsheet, the formatting of my cells are back to general. The cells that already have values in them are not affected, but blank cells that I then enter new values into do not follow the format. I highlight the entire column and change the formatting, but upon re-opening the blank cells revert to general. Is there anyway to maintain the formatting after I save and re-open?

Sure. Just make sure that the workbook is saved as an excel file. It sounds
like you are working with a text file which can not contain formatting
information.
