Formatting cells

I have cells that are formatted as text. They contain
dates (ex: 07/03). When I change the format to dates and
MAR-98 the value does not change in the cell until I
double click in that cell the click outside the cell. Can
anyone help?

Enter 1 in a free cell and copy it. Select your dates, then Edit -- Paste
Special -- Multiply -- OK. This may change your dates to serial #s, if so
reformat them.

Copy a blank cell and Paste Special>Add onto your range. This will make the
text into a number.

As long as the blank cell wasn't formatted as text!
