formatting cells

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)

my formatting does not stay after i save and close, then reopen the file.
when i format i select the entire column and change the formatting.
it works while i'm still working in it. once i save and close then reopen it the next time, the formatting is all gone.

please this is really frustrating, can someone please help me. is it just the program? or is it something i can fix.

Is your installation of Office fully updated (12.1.5)? That's the first
thing to confirm. Also, repair disk permissions & restart your Mac just to
make sure the playing field is level.

Assuming that the problem continues, is it just one particular file or all
files that this happens? Are these files you created with Excel 2008 or are
they from another source? If so, how did they originate?

What kind of "formatting" are you applying & why are you applying it to an
entire column (1,048,576 cells)?

Do you have any file management or "helper" utilities installed which could
be influencing the behavior? Is there any problem saving the data content?

What other details can you offer?

In addition to the questions Bob asked:

What file *type* are you saving to?

CSV, TXT, etc., by definition are unformatted file types, so you'd
expect to see the behavior you cite.
