formatting cells

Tom Whitmore

Hi,

I am a long time Excel user but have an odd problem I cannnot fix. I have
Excel 2003 with all fixes running Windows XP with all fixes as well)

I have a spreadsheet creted as a tab-delimited sheet by another program. I
opened the file and have saved it as an xls and checked that no cells are
locked. What I cannot do is click on a cell and format it bold/italic/etc
with the tool bar. A click does nothing! If I use the format cells dialog
and choose bold (or whatever) in the font tab bold appears OK. Indeed, if
I bold a cell that way I can un-bold and re-bold with the button on the
bar.

I am sure this mist be simple but its beyond me! Thanks for any help

Tom
