I have received manuscript guidelines requiring each chapter to be formatted
as a seperate, numbered file. I need instruction on how to do this. The
project is saved in .rft format in word. PLEASE HELP!

Your problem isn't really very clear. What do you mean by "numbered"?

For breaking an RTF document with many chapters in separate files, the
easiest way is probably to do Save As many times. In the first Save As,
save as ch1.doc and delete chapters 2-end. In the second Save As, save as
ch2.doc and delete chapter 1 and chapters 3-end. And so forth.

I would make a COPY of the doc first, and keep the copy open to do the Save
As from, so that you can't accidentally delete anything.

Hi Phyllis,

If your chapter headings are numbered, just go into View > Outline, and
click on the button to create subdocuments.

But make a backup first, and throw away the master document. The master
document feature is something you don't want to use if you don't absolutely
need to.

Klaus
