Formatting columns with vertical lines

I would really appreciate some help.
I am trying to insert a columns into a new document, I select the no of
columns and place a tick in "Line in between" to insert vertical lines in
between the columns. The column is inserted but I cannot see the vertical
lines.

I am using office 2003 with current service pack installed. My document is
set to Print Layout of the View tab.

Any help would be much appreciated on why this would be.

Hi Dave,

I run office 2003:

If I set up a two column page with a line between the columns; the line does
not show up until I have filled up the first column.

Either with work or show/hide marks.
