Formatting columns

How do I create 2 tables (one under the other) such that each table can
have the column width adjusted independently?
I want column A of the top to be a different width than column A of the
bottom table.

You might be able to use Format|Cells|alignment tab to merge cells, but I think
I'd put the two tables on different sheets.

Even if it's not a necessity today, it'll make things cleaner if you start that
way.
