formatting content within bookmarks

Our office has about 50 form letters that merge data from
an Oracle db to Word using bookmarks. We also seem to
have a lot of text in the bookmarks that have either
quotes or apostrophes, which always come out as straight
instead of curled or "smart quotes". The developer says
that Oracle doesn't support smart quotes and implied that
I'm stuck with the straight ones.

Does anyone know if there's something I can do from the
Word side that will automatically turn all the ugly
straight quotes and apostrophes into curled ones?

Hi Nancy,

I think you may find an article on the word.mvps.org website
that describes how this can be done using Find/Replace.

Theoretically, one should also be able to do this using
Format/AutoFormat, but the feature is a bit tricky and
generally not too reliable. But you can test on a copy of a
document and see what you get.
