Formatting date fields

i imported data from another spreadsheet it has two date fields. The
format is 9 Oct 05. I created a new field and when i enter the date it
appears as 9/25/05. If I change the date in the two original fields I
enter the data as 10/9/05 and it will appear as the original format of
9 Oct 05.

Why is this? Where can I select a format to apply to that column?

Highlight the column by clicking on the column header, then select
format-cells. On the number tab you will find several date formats to choose
from. If these are not what you want, you can create a custom format. Check
the help file for details.
