Formatting disappears when document opens

When I open a previously created document in Word by using "File
"Open", the file opens as a text document with all formatting gon
(tables, bullets, fonts, etc.) When I re-open the document using th
"Recently Used" drop down, the file is fine.

As far as I know, I've changed nothing on my preferences etc.

Hi Darla8855,

Version of Word?

When you're in the File/Open dialog box, what do you see as the "File
type" (at the bottom)? If it's NOT "Word Document", select that and
see if the problem goes away.

"Recently Used" drop down, the file is fine.

As far as I know, I've changed nothing on my preferences etc.

Files of type had been set (who knows why) on "Recover Text From An
File".

It works fine now
