Formatting Envelopes???

N

Norm

Really frustrated with trying to change the formatting of envelopes in
Word vX. I've spent 45 minutes on this 5 minute project. :-( Maybe I
should just go back to my initial decision to stay with Word 5.1a. ;)

Is there any foolproof way for this old, Word vX challenged rookie that
works for formatting envelopes?

It is probably simple but I "think" I'm following all the steps in Word
Help but I give up.

I've tried both methods that the little assistant presents and it seems
to take the changes each time. However, when I go back, open that
template document and select envelope, it is back to the default font of
Helvetica.

I'd really like to format all envelopes in the same style, not just for
my three templates that I've created, but I'd settle for success doing
individually. Whatever works.

Appreciate the help. Thanks.

To my knowledge I've never ever used a version of word (6.0.1,
2001,2004) that allowed the opening of envelope already preset to your
desired font.

My Font of choice is Benguait Its the most readable font for me I've run
across. Many of the Papaerback books for computing including the some of
the "dummies" books are written in Benguait.

I'd love for enevelopes to open using my font as well. But I've resigned
myself to the fact I'll have to set the font everytime.

Although I've quit using it, a feature in WordPerfect 3.5.e allow you to
save envelopes in desired font under the person's name in a database.
Next time you need to write to that person, click on that persons name,
the envelope is automatically called up exactly as you designed it. Just
print it. It would be a great feature for Word to employ.

Have you tried clicking the "Font" button in the "Envelopes" dialog and then
clicking on the "Default..." button in the font dialog after selecting the
font you wish to use? Do this for both the Delivery & Return address fonts.

Let us know if this doesn't help.

That is what I did. Both via changing styles and the more direct way
of changing when the envelope is open.

They seem to take and the Word dialog confirms by asking if I want to
change the default for all future envelope based on that template but
when I Quit and go back to that template, I assume I can't define for
all envelopes, and it is back to Helvetica. Hmmmm... :-(

I just tried it again: from Gallery selected my letterhead template,
then from tools opened envelopes, then on the to address changed font
to Palantino and selected Default, then I couldn't select the return
address so I unclicked using my address, then I changed that to
Palatino and selected default, both times it confirmed was changing
default. Then Quit MS Word and launched again, opened my letterhead
and then envelopes and the font was Helvetica. ???

Thanks.

my three templates that I've created...

Appreciate the help. Thanks.

I've found it easier to create my envelope templates as normal document
templates, but with page set-up and font formatting optimised for my usual
envelope size.

i.e.:

File: New Blank Document;
File: Page Setup: select or set your envelope size and orientation (I use
Landscape);
Position your address area(s) using tabs or a table;
Set the font;
Enter dummy address lines (e.g. Name, 1st address line, 2nd address line,
etc.);
File..Save As - click Options, set Read-Only Recommended, click OK, then
select Format:Document Template, finally name the template and place it in
your Templates Folder.

To use, open the new template, drag across your dummy lines and overwrite
them with the required information (thus retaining the font). Save and/or
print as required.
