formatting font- strike through

V

Vera

Hello,
I am new to MS Project. Is it possible to strike-through the text within a
task in Project 2003? I have several tasks that are now obsolete, and we are
not allowed to remove the tasks from our schedule. In order to differentiate
those obsolete tasks, my PM would like to mark the font with a
strike-through. If this is not possible, I am open to any suggestions.

Thanks in advance,
Vera

Hi Vera, I'd like that functionality as well, but have not found it. Maybe
somebody else will chime in and enlighten us. As for those obsolete tasks,
what I do is move them to the bottom of my schedule under a summary task
called "deleted tasks" or in your case "obsolete tasks". I then rolled the
tasks up and change the task summary font to "white" so I don't see the
summary when I print my schedule. You could also exclude that line through
the use of a "flag field". Hope this helps. Regards, Ray

Vera,
Unfortunately Project does not have a strike-through font option.
However, there are various alternatives including, underline, italic or
a font color to distinguish the obsolete tasks. But rather than
individually setting a custom font for each obsolete task, add the
Marked field as a column in the Gantt Chart view. Set that field to
"yes" for each obsolete task. Then go to Format/Text Styles and select
the Marked Tasks in the Item to change selection box.

You might also consider using a filter to effectively "hide" the
obsolete tasks from the normal view. Just go to Project/Filtered
For/More Filters and set the filter criteria as Marked field equal to no.

Hope this helps.

Hello Ray and Vera,

No, sorry strike through formatting is not available in MS Project.
Ray's suggestion is a good one, particularly with flagging tasks and
creating custom filters to exclude the flagged tasks. Make sure the
set the duration of the obsolete tasks to zero and remove
predecessor/successors as needed.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Great suggestions! I'll try them out to see what works best for our project.
