Formatting Frustration

D

David Shaughnessy

Please help. My document has begun highlighting selected text in
black, rather than my selected highlighting color (yellow). Worse,
the lines where the black highlighting occurs seem to have a mind of
their own, with their own (incorrect) formatting that I cannot change.
I don't know how this started and I do not have a clue what is going
on, and it is driving me nuts. Any suggestions would be greatly
appreciated.

Thanks.

David,

I discovered a while back that the black/yellow thing depends on whether
you are viewing the doc in "normal" (highlights appear yellow) or "page
layout," in which case highlights are black.

Not sure about what you mean with the lines. Maybe it'll go away if you
do your editing in "normal"?

David, are you on a Macintosh? What version of Word are you in? Have you
applied all service patches?

I vaguely remember this being a bug with a known fix, but can't remember the
solution. The above info might help.

I have seen something like that when the selected text included some
expanded fields, like page references and footnote references. I seem
to remember that whole lines containing fields would highlight light
grey on a dark grey background, even though only a small part of the
line was actually a field. Being fields, that might also explain the
"mind of their own" formatting that David saw.

(Errk, top posting makes my teeth p.p.polarize, but if I don't continue
it will be worse)
