Formatting Loss - Dollar and Date

Christine

Before upgrading to XP, I didn't have to manually change the formatting for dollars and dates after a merge from an Excel datafile into a Word Document. The Formula Bar in Excel doesn't reflect the formatting - only the true value, which is what now appears in my Word file. How can I preserve the formatting in XP?
