Formatting Not Saved

Matt Day

I am getting an error message stating:

Excel could not save all the data and formatting you recently added to Stock
Picker.xls.

You are presented with 3 options.

Return to your workbook without saving,
If you want to continue saving the changes without repairing the problem,
click OK
For information about repairing the problem, click help

If I click help, nothing comes up in help, as if there is NO help available.
The other options do nothing to help in saving the changes.

Any help or advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Matt

When you do a File|SaveAs (not just Save), what kind of "Save As Type" are you
choosing?

Is it "microsoft Excel Workbook (*.xls)" or something else?

If you're using xl97 or higher and are choosing "Microsoft Excel 5.0/95
Workbook", then maybe you're using something that was added in xl97. (Merged
cells come to mind.)

If that's not it, post back with the version of excel you're running, too.

This sounds like you are using 2000 or 2002, and have an option set
somewhere to save in an older format for backwards compatibility. Try
finding these settings and changing them.

Well, I found the error on the Microsoft Knowledge Base. Apparently with
Excel 2000, if you have more than 2025 rows with conditional formatting you
will receive the error below. Has to do with how they coded it. Seems
shortsighted to me, but its their code so....

Also I always use Save As instead of Save for several reasons. Thanks for
the look though Dave. I wish there was a solution, but it doesnt sound like
it.

Thanks

Matt

Hi Matt,
Would be nice to include the MS KB article for the rest of us,
even if it doesn't have additional information beyond what you
mentioned, actually the article indicates 2,050 row limitation.
Anyway thanks for finding it and reporting it.
