Formatting Number Outlines

We are attempting to convert several files to Word. Some
files contain answer keys for exams. We would like to be
able to type the answer in the blank line that preceeds
the question number. We have set these lines in number
outline *custom) format. Is there a way to type into
these individual lines? We prefer not to set the file up
in table format.
