Formatting numbering in styles

Trevor

When I want to customise the outline numbering for a
style, where are the eight options that display stored,
and how can I customise the options so that they will
appear the same for each style I want to customise?

Thanks.

Hi Trevor,

The short version: The "list galleries" can change at any time while you
work in Word (playing "musical chairs", as I think Margaret Aldis put it).
They show just some random collection of factory presets, and the many list
templates you have used.
Kind of a "most recently used" list.
Between Word sessions, they are stored in the registry.

You don't have much hope to tame the list galleries.
For setting up styles, this doesn't matter much since it doesn't usually
make much difference which list template you start with.
If you define your style from example, the responsible list template will
already be selected in the list galleries.

For anything else but defining list or bullet styles, the list galleries are
best avoided.

Regards,
Klaus
