Formatting Numbering Lists

Hi I'm hoping someone can help me solve this.

I'm making a numbering list (technically letters) but I can't get it to
format the way I want. Whenever you create a list in Word, it automatically
puts a space between the number or letter and what you write afterwards
(i.e., 1. Today)

The list I am making is all Bold and Underlined and since Word keeps
inserting the space between my list figures and my titles, it just looks off.
I can't figure out how to keep a line in between the space of my letters and
titles.

Now I've figured out how to 'cheat' around the system by not using Word's
automatic list function, HOWEVER since this list will be used by many people
and parts will be changed / deleted by user specific to content, I want the
list to remain in order. If I dont use the list function, and I have A B C D,
etc, and the user needs to remove subject C, then the list won't rename
itself (it would still say A B D, etc). They would have to go through and
manually re-type the letters in order.

I'm sure there is a simple solution to either removing or formatting that
'space' between the list figure and the words written afterwards but I
haven't been able to figure it out. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

If you select Outline Numbered and click More to expand the dialog, you can
select Tab, Space, or Nothing as the character to follow the number.
