Formatting numbers at level 3

Maresa

Hi, I am having problems with formatting my level 3
headings, using my style tmeplate.

Each time I customise heading 3 by selecting the level 3
option (in the Customize Outine Numbered List window),
the Number format field does not appear as a level 3
style. i.e 1.1.1. Instead it appears as 1. Why is this?

Please help. Thanks.

Hi Maresa:

One thing to do, perhaps you already did this, is to get
there by Modifying your level 1 heading. You only choose
level 3 on the screen "Customize Outline Numbered List".

The second-from-left lower-tier thumbnail on Outline
Numbered (on my system) is already set up with that 1,
1.1, 1.1.1 pattern. But if you're building it yourself,
you have to do this:

Starting with a blank box for Number format:
Use Previous level number: Level 1 to put in the first 1
Type a period
Use Previous level number: Level 2 to put in the next 1
Type another period
Then use Number style to put in the last 1, and type a
period if you want.

It has to be done in that sequence, although all the 1's
will look the same.
* * *
One slight problem: sometimes if you go to put in that
Previous level number: Level 1, it won't let you. The
solution is, put in Level 2, then delete it. THEN it
should let you put in Level 1, and you continue with the
sequence.
