Formatting of LISTNUM in Word 2007

I am using the field LISTNUM to number equations in my Word 2007 document.
It appears that the default format for LISTNUM is “1)†with the right
parenthesis included. I have right clicked on the number field and defined a
new format so that the number will appear only as “1†without the
parenthesis. This works as long as I have the document open. However, if I
close the document or if I print the document, the field reverts back to the
default format which includes the parenthesis. Defining a new number format
is the only option that I have when I right click on the field.

Any suggestions?

In order to do this, I think you have to create a new numbering list style. Go
to the Outline numbering button and click the arrow. Choose "Define new list
style".

Set the formatting you want in this list (to get to all the number formatting
commands, click the Format button and choose Numbering). Give it a name!

Now use this name in the ListNum field: { ListNum MyListNum }
