Formatting of Mail Merge fields

P

ps

Hi,

I have a requirement to produce a number of labels. The data for the labels
is simple, there are three fields:

Name, Title, Type

For example, a record might be "John Smith, I Did It My Way, VBA Programmer"

The data source for the merge is an Excel spreadsheet.

The format of the label is to be:

John Smith

I Did It My Way
VBA Programmer

The Title and Type fields are to align with the last character of the Name
field. Try as I might I have yet to find a way to accomplish this.

I am using Word XP on Windows Server 2003

Any ideas how to do this would be hugely appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I don't think there is any way you can get this to work automatically. The
closest thing that occurs to me is the "Automatically resize to fit content"
capability of tables in Word 2000 and later for table columns. But that
would mean every record would have to be a separate table, and the tables
would have to be set up in newspaper type columns. Tricky, and I'm not sure
it would work. But certainly your only chance.

You may be able to use an { Advance } field to move the "I Did It My Way"
down, but I can't think of a way to deal with the title line.
