Formatting palette corrupt (pixel sizing)

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

I have suddenly started to experience issues with XL formatting palette (Word is still working fine), when i select the palette it is a different pixel size and seems to be corrupt(boxes, layout and selection options within the formatting palette are layered/showing on top of each other, if i manage to get into a tab selection the blow out is huge).

I have tried to reset, uncheck, re-start, re-boot, even the re-position VBE script as per similar posts... but none have worked.

I am running MAC OSX Leopard with Excel 2004 on a MacBook Pro. Screen resolution is 1440 x 900
