formatting palette

Hi! I was hoping someone could help me, I seem to have lost my
formatting palette, when I open and close it from the toolbar, it looks
like it opens beyond the reach of my cursor (below the screen) and I
can't even see it. I've tried fiddling around with the "normal"
template but I can't figure it out. I was wondering if anyone has
encountered this problem and knows how I could fix it. I was also
looking for a way to reset to Microsoft's default preferences, thinking
this might help, but I couldn't figure out how to do that.

Any insights are welcome!
