Formatting phone numbers

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Processor: Intel Hi all,

I am in the middle of a project and I was hoping someone could help me.

I am merging mailing lists which contain phone numbers. Some of the phone numbers are formatted (800) 000-0000 and some are formatted 800-000-0000. I have to choose one of the formats.

Is there a way to change the formats on all instead of doing it manually?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you, Bonnie

highlight the column where the phone number is;
use find and replace;
test the first one, then if it is ok, replace all

Thank you so much for replying.

I did try that and I cannot get it to work. I know I am doing something wrong.

I have somewhere around 5,000 left to change. this is a nightmare! aarrgghhh

Again, thanks so much! Bonnie

Hi Bonnie;

You don't specify exactly what you tried nor do you indicate what "cannot
get it to work" means, but this works fine here:

1- Select the list of phone numbers then Edit> Replace,

2- In the 'Find what:' box type ( but leave the 'Replace with:' box empty,
click Replace All,

3- Replace the ( in 'Find what:' with ) followed by a space, put - in the
'Replace with:' box, click Replace All again.

That should make all phone numbers 800-000-0000
