Formatting problem

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

When I select and format text, often the entire document formats itself according to the selection and i have to press command "z" to get it to return to normal. This only happens when I select one line of text, such as an outline point. I change the font, or bold the text, and the entire document follows this format. But if I'm working in a paragraph and bold or italicize a word, only that word is formatted. Any ideas?

It makes sense, but in 2008 Office for Mac, there is no such button for automatically update in the styles menu. do you know how to do it in this version of Office?

It's on the second page of the Format>Style>Modify... Dialog.

You have to go into Modify to see it...
