Formatting Restrictions

I have a Word template, created in Word 2003 (but have some problems if using
Word 2007) where I've restricted the user to certain custom styles. So under
protection I have limit formatting to a selection of styles checked and a
password has been added. Everyone in the company can edit the file (add text,
cut, copy, move, delete) they just can't add their own styles. The problem is
that if I send this same file outside of the company (to a translation house)
the file is completely locked to them. Not only can they not add new style
tags, they can't edit the file in any way. Why? I don't have editing
restrictions checked so it shouldn't be restricting editing of the file. It
appears that when the file is sent outside of our company network it's
completely locked. How can I fix this without having to unlock the template
styles for them (which solves the problem).

What version of Word is the recipient using? If 2000 [perhapss even 2002] or
prior *or* any Mac versions that level of protection isn't supported so the
entire file opens as Read Only

Template created in Word 2003 - outside the company it cannot be edited in
any way with Word 2003 or Word 2007. No Mac platforms that I'm aware of. I
e-mailed the file to myself at home and I cannot edit the file on my personal
computer. Somehow it's associating the locking with the network address or
network user.

Are you saving the file to the local HD & working with *that* rather than
opening the attachment? You can't edit a file which resides on an email
server.
