Formatting reverts to basic when document reopens

I'm doing a 100 page document and am using a table with
two columns throughout the document. Basically, the left
hand column has some headlines, images and special text
quotes and the other column is just text with some
headlines.

I have created a new style (called Big Quote) for the
special text quotes and it applies OK but when I close
and re-open the document the 'Big Quote' formatting
reverts to the default table formatting.

The Headings maintain their formatting OK.

Any advice much appreciated.

Hi JohnF,

You might check Tools/Templates and Addins whether the
checkbox to update styles on open is activated? if it is,
deactivate it and things should settle down...
