Formatting rows

R

Regina

In using 2002, I inserted rows at the bottom of a
spreadsheet to keep them in the "form" established but
when I try to add borders to the newly created rows, Excel
is ignoring this. When I try to copy formatting of
previous rows, Excel still won't put borders on these
newly created rows so the printed version appears that the
new rows are all one cell.
I can't find anything about this - any ideas?
thanks!

Hi Regina...........

Maybe the new cells actually got "merged" accidently............
Try selecting the new rows, and Right-click > Format Cells >Alignment tab >
uncheck Merge Cells.........

Chuck,
thank you for your prompt reply! They are merged cells
that I'm trying to put a border or copy a border to so
does that mean there is a problem with putting a border
around merged cells? Sometimes it works on my spreadsheets
and other times, it ignores formatting.
thanks again

Hi Regina.........

I only have XL2000 so I'm not sure how 2002 works, but I would imagine it's
the same.........I cannot border the insides of a merged block of cells
without breaking the "merge"........I can border the outside perimeter of
the group of merged cells..........you should be able to also..........just
right-click on the merged cell itself, rather than the Row Number and then
choose Format Cells > Border tab, and then the "Outline" button

This totally makes sense - I appreciate your time in
answering this as I had no luck in finding an answer by
googling my question!
Gratefully,
