I edit technical documents in Word 2007. My authors use graphics from
powerpoint, Excel, etc. My issue is that some behave like Word pictures when
in the document and some don't. Examples are characterized by what happens
when I left click to select and then right click for options in them:
Type 1 - selected image boundary is open circles on corners with a
center-top, green filled 'handle' as if it can be grab-rotated. Right click
gives Cut through Format Picture options, and Format click gives Fill through
Text Box options along the left side.
Type 2 - selected image has blue filled smaller circles on corners and an
anchor symbol in the left margin. Left click gives same options but
choosing Format Picture gives the picture options in tabs across the top.
Choosing Inline with Text gives an error message "The server application,
source file or item cannot be found. Make sure the application is properly
inhnstalled, and that it has not been deleted, moved, renamed or blocked by
policy". Makes me think this is a Linked graphic but how to tell and how to
unlink?
Type 3 - selected image has a light blue, thin frame around it with tiny
dots for grab-resizing. Right clicking gives a Cut through Text Wrapping
options (no Picture Formatting option!).
The type 2 above is a problem since I can't format it and the Type 3 is
manageable.
My question is - have you run into all of these types, what are they, what
effect do they have on the document and what would you do if you encountered
them? Ask the authors to redo them in a different manner/format/insert
technique? Simple conversion steps?
