Formatting with columns & page numbers

Is it possible to use landscape view with separate columns as if they were different pages - with page number beneath each column?
My students are writing books and we would like to bind them in 1/2 page size.

Well, you *can* but unless you're willing to spend as much of their time
teaching them the more advanced professional aspects of Word as you spend on
the actual creative activity you might want to consider another approach
Use Word to write the books but use something such as the following to
output the work:
