formatting

I saved my document in Word, but it has a "formatted" area on it that I can
not get rid of. It is in 4 sections on the document. I have spasms and
apparently hit a button somewhere on my super-sensitive laptop that has
caused this to occur. It did not happen to any of the other documents that I
saved before or after this document. The items in question are in Red
outside the page margins to the right with a dotted line to the formatted
area. Anytime I type in the area, it turns red. It even prints in this
area. Help!! How do I get rid of this stuff. It is a court document. It
even took away my legal form except the numbering system. What is up with
that?

It sounds like you have Track Changes turned on. The "items" you see on the
right are indications of what you changed. The shortcut for turning the
Track Changes feature on and off is Ctrl+Shift+E. You need to turn it off so
it won't track any more changes, and then accept or reject the changes that
are already tracked.

See http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/trackchanges/HowTrackChangesWorks.html
for a description.
